Remodeling in Pompano Beach, Condos and Mid-Century Homes
Expert Crew
Pompano Beach splits into two kinds of remodel. East of the Intracoastal, it’s condos: buildings along A1A and Hillsboro from the 1960s through the 2000s, where the bathroom and kitchen share drain stacks with the units above and below, and the association has rules about hours, elevators, and water shutoffs. We know the routine and we prepare the package before the first day.
Inland, it’s the mid-century neighborhoods: Cresthaven, Kendall Green, Cypress Lake, Pompano Beach Highlands. These are 1950s-to-1970s concrete-block homes with terrazzo floors, cast-iron drain lines, and bathrooms that were small when they were built. The most common request here is the same as everywhere in older Broward: open the kitchen to the living room, and turn the master tub into a walk-in shower. The difference in Pompano is what’s under the floor. Cutting terrazzo to relocate a drain is real work, and cast iron from the 60s often needs to come out while the floor is open. We check both before we quote.
The 55+ communities, Leisureville and Palm-Aire among them, are a third category: 1970s construction, association rules, and a lot of original bathrooms.
Permits With the City of Pompano Beach
Pompano Beach runs its own Building Division. We pull the permit, schedule inspections, and close it out.
Every Trade In House
Plumbing, electrical, tile, drywall, and cabinetry by the same crew. No waiting between subcontractors.
Waterproofed Before Tiled
Every shower gets a full membrane before the first tile. In a condo, this is what keeps your bathroom remodel from becoming the downstairs neighbor's problem.

Permits for a Kitchen or Bathroom Remodel in Pompano Beach
Pompano Beach is its own permitting authority. Inside city limits, your permit goes through the City of Pompano Beach Building Division, not Broward County.
You need a permit when a remodel moves plumbing, adds or relocates electrical circuits, or removes or alters a wall. Replacing cabinets, countertops, a vanity, or tile in the same footprint usually does not. We tell you which category your project falls into during the estimate, and we handle the permit either way.
Three things to know about Pompano Beach specifically:
- Coastal flood zones. East of the Intracoastal, and along the canals inland, homes and ground-floor condo units sit in mapped flood zones. Interior remodels are usually unaffected, but if the project touches an electrical panel, a water heater, or anything below base flood elevation, the city applies flood-zone rules to the permit. We flag this at the estimate.
- Condo building rules. Pompano Beach associations typically require a scope of work, license, and insurance certificate, set work hours, and require scheduled water shutoffs. Buildings along A1A often add elevator reservations and loading rules. Shared drain stacks are checked before the bathroom layout is finalized.
- Terrazzo and cast iron in older homes. 1950s-70s homes in Pompano usually have terrazzo floors over the slab and cast-iron drains under it. Relocating a shower drain or a kitchen sink means cutting terrazzo and, often, replacing a section of cast iron while the floor is open. We inspect and price this before demolition, not after.

Pompano Beach Remodeling Questions
Answers to the questions Pompano Beach homeowners ask most before a kitchen or bathroom remodel.
Yes. Condos are a large part of our Pompano Beach work. We prepare the association package, schedule water shutoffs with building management, reserve the elevator where required, and work within the building's hours. Shared drain stacks are checked before the layout is finalized.
Yes. Relocating a drain in a terrazzo-floor home means cutting the terrazzo and slab, rerouting the drain, and pouring back. If the existing cast-iron drain is deteriorated, we replace that section while the floor is open. Both are priced in the written scope before work begins.
Yes, if the work moves plumbing, changes electrical, or alters a wall. The City of Pompano Beach Building Division issues the permit and schedules inspections. Replacing a vanity, toilet, or tile in the same layout usually does not require one. DR Home Solutions pulls all required permits.
